On Sunday evening, 6th October 2019, the Think Forward Initiative’s (TFI) inbox was flooded with research submissions. The team received 146 submissions, 81 for short-term projects and 65 for long-term projects. This was a growth of 11% compared with submissions in 2018. We received submissions globally with proposals from Europe, Canada, US, Australia, Asia and Africa.

The team will now take the time to carefully review all submissions – with the advice of peer reviewers - and announce the proposals the TFI will award funding to on 16th December 2019.

The winning submissions will be the ones that are seen to provide the most relevant impact-driven insights in the domains of people’s (financial) decision-making, financial health, and financial well-being. This is in line with the TFI vision of empowering 100 million people to make better financial decisions.

There were proposals from all spectrums and themes, however the highest number of proposals, 21%, focused on social networks, moral and social norms, small groups/local communities (micro-cultural contexts); and/or peer effects on spending and borrowing behaviours of individuals/households. See the full list of proposal themes below. TFI is extremely thankful for all those that made the effort to submit their research proposals. With each submission the TFI team are one step closer to creating a financially empowered society. Thank you.
